Valencia port climbs one spot in Europe’s container ports ranking

Valencia port has climbed one place in the European ranking of container ports and, according to statistical data from the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO), at the end of the first quarter of the year, it has overtaken Bremen as the fourth port in Europe in this type of cargo.

Based on the data provided by the ESPO, the German port has handled 1,241,690 TEUs during the first three months of the year. This figure represents a reduction of 103,792 TEUs compared to the same period of the previous year, which translates into a decline of 7.7%.

On the other hand, according to the data of the statistical bulletin of the Valencia port authority for the month of March, the harbour closed the first quarter with a movement of 1,355,026 TEUs, a figure that supposes 154,061 more units and an increase of 12.88%.

In April, Valencia port registered a total traffic of 452,848 TEUs, 5.92% more than the same month of last year. This rise is mainly due to the good performance of full containers that advanced 8.36%, with a total movement of 368,450 TEUs. Imports and transit increased by 16.06% and 9.67%, respectively, while exports fell by a slight 0.17%.
