The 7th Rail Market Monitoring Scheme Report published 18/01/21

The 7^th Rail Market Monitoring Scheme Report published - the most comprehensive empirical report of the railway state of affairs. The main findings and trends for 2015-2018 in EU27 are that:

- rail freight traffic increased by 4.1%;

- rail freight ‘modal share’ of land transport modes decreased from 18.8% to 18.7%;

- in 2018, rail accounted for only 0.4% of both greenhouse gas (GHG) and CO2 transport emissions and for 2% of transport energy consumption;

- the total length of tracks that were declared to be congested more than doubled;
