VPI, the Association of Freight Wagon Owners in Germany insisted at its General Assembly that the Federal Ministry of Transport should implement the Rail Freight Master Plan swiftly and consistently.

It has been emphasised at VPI General Assembly that the goals set out in the Rail Freight Master Plan should also be afforded political momentum in order to increase the market share of rail freight, which has stagnated for years between 17 and 18 percent.

Wagon-owners have recently demonstrated innovation, noise protection and digitalization. VPI simultaneously expects from the federal government that it also goes quickly into implementation mode over its Rail Freight Master Plan, as goodwill alone is not enough for the required turnaround. The announced track access charge reduction is a first important step, and now it must be rapidly implemented.

Action in many other relevant topics, including funding national research and development programs as well as the expansion of the network for 740-meter-long trains of P400 profile gauge, or the promotion of standardized solutions for digitization and automation.
