The project partners were able to develop numerous measures in the course of the project in order to improve intermodal transport in the future. The project succeeded in significantly increasing the degree of compatibility between pocket wagon and semitrailer for a smooth intermodal transport of the future, so that a semitrailer can be used flexibly in future both on the road and on the rail.

Experts from various fields worked together during the project to develop a trailblazing trailer for flexible road and rail use. The project team included the three semi-trailer manufacturers Fahrzeugwerk Bernard Krone, Schmitz Cargobull and Wilhelm Schwarzmüller as well as the rail freight company TX Logistik, the initiators of the project, Zitzlsperger Spedition & Logistik and LKZ Prien – most of whom are members of UIRR’s ILU and Wagon Platform.

In the course of the project, a total of 15 measures were developed, containing recommendations for improvements and adjustments to the semitrailer, the pocket wagon and the infrastructure. In a next step, the intermodal wagon will be further improved. To this end, LKZ Prien has already set the course with the project "Future Intermodal Wagon". The project is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Housing, Construction and Transport.
