What do the numbers tell us for Poland-China traffic in 2022?

Following the war in Ukraine and the diversification of Silk Road routes, the Silk Road volumes have presented stagnation, with growth rates for the first half of 2022 dropping substantially. Poland-China traffic is not excepted from the downward trend since volume numbers in both directions are not the same as they used to be.

Poland was and continues to be a vital gateway for Eurasian traffic. Nevertheless, 2022 is not as positive as in previous years. RailFreight.com prepared an infographic with all the information you need concerning the China-Europe and China-Poland traffic.

A look at the charts shows that for China-Europe traffic in the first half of 2022, freight train trips witnessed a 2 per cent increase, while the amount of TEUs carried rose by 2,6 per cent. Even though the Silk Road keeps growing, the growth rates are way lower compared to the previous years.

As for Poland-China traffic, for the first half of 2022, eastbound volumes in TEUs decreased by 49,28 per cent, with the overall transported tons decreasing by 66,73 per cent. On the other hand, westbound volumes in TEUs saw a 14,18 per cent decrease, with the overall tons dropping just by 2,82 per cent.
