< Zurück

Italy has been allowed to promote the shift of freight transport from road to rail. The EU Commission has approved the scheme, which will provide €110 million in direct grants to companies using intermodal rail transport services or to multimodal transport companies that contract electric-powered block trains from railway companies. The maximum amount of aid is EUR 2.5/train km.

The programme will last until December 31, 2027.

The aid scheme for rail freight transport in the Emilia-Romagna region, which was already approved by the Commission in October 2019, has been extended until the end of 2027, the total funding has been increased from EUR 25 million to EUR 31 million and the maximum rates have also been increased. The maximum amount of aid per beneficiary is now EUR 500,000 (previously EUR 150,000) and the maximum amount per unit has been set at EUR 1.16/t (previously EUR 0.7/t). This applies to the kilometers traveled in the regional area.
