Rail freight transport in Poland increased in February

In February, increases in the weight of transported goods were at a similar level as in January 2022. The weight of transported goods amounted to 19.8 million tonnes, which meant an increase by 10.8% compared to the previous year. The transport performance reached the level of over 4.5 billion tonne-kilometers (an increase by 15.5%), and the operational performance - 6.4 million train-kilometers (an increase by 9.3%). The average distance of transporting 1 ton of goods was 230 km, 10 km more than in the previous year.

In February 2022, a slightly higher weight of transported goods was recorded compared to January 2022. In this case, the increase was 0.2 million tonnes (1%). On the other hand, slight decreases were recorded in terms of transport performance, which was lower by 0.6 million tonne-kilometers (-0.01%) and operational performance, which was lower by 0.1 million train-kilometers (-1.9%). The average distance was shorter by 2 km.

"The transport results in January and February 2022 were much better than in the same months in the previous two years. I notice that rail freight carriers make successful attempts to increase loads in a demanding economic environment ” - comments Dr. Eng. Ignacy Góra, President of the Office of Rail Transport.

After two months of 2022, 39.3 million tons of goods were transported. This is more by 11.2% than in the same period in 2021. The transport performance amounted to 9.1 billion tonne-kilometers (an increase by 13.3%), and operational work was 13 million train-kilometers (an increase by 8.4%). The average transport distance reached 231 km and was 4 km higher than in the same period last year.
