Modernization of the INTERPORT terminal supported by the CEF program with EUR 45 million

The entire modernization project will cost EUR 53 million. It was launched in March this year and is scheduled for completion in 2026.

In the wake of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which has virtually paralyzed the maritime transport of grain and other commodities from Black Sea ports, interest in rail freight between Ukraine and EU countries has increased dramatically.

The owner of the INTERPORT intermodal terminal, BB-TRADE, has therefore decided to significantly modernize the terminal. The aim is to considerably increase the terminal's transshipment capacity for bulk substrates, containers, and palletized goods between all modes of transport.

"With the help of the consulting company EFA CZ, BB-TRADE has managed to obtain a grant from the European CEF program for this project, thus becoming the first Slovak private entity to draw support from this program," says Tomáš Honomichl, CEO of the holding company INTERPORT PARTNERS GROUP.

Interport's intermodal terminal in Haniske pri Košice is unique due to its location at the eastern border of the EU, its direct connection to the standard European (1435 mm) and broad (1520 mm) gauge railway lines, the R4 expressway connecting Hungary and Poland and its neighborhood with Košice International Airport.
