Alis: shift to intermodal has seen Italy take 5.8 million truck journeys off its roads

The figures come from analysis conducted by the Alis Study Center and an Italian think tank, which also estimates that the movement to intermodal shall will increase this year.

“Last year we transferred 5.8 million trucks journeys on Italian roads and from Italy to Europe. That’s equal to over 139 million tons of goods, which generated a reduction of over 5.3 million tons of CO2 emissions,” said Grimaldi, at the recent LETEXPO event in Verona.

Grimaldi also spoke on the topic of whether the transport and logistics sector in Italy is adequately valued, and if the importance of the industry to the wellbeing of the economy was widely known.

Another participant at LETEXPO was the country’s Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini .

“In a moment of economic, social, medical and also psychological difficulty for many post-Covid – finding points of contact rather than points of contrast is essential. The motorways, ports and airports are neither right or left,” said the minister.
