A new intermodal terminal of PKP Cargo Terminale was officially opened in Zduńska Wola - Karsznice, located at the intersection of the Warsaw - Łódź - Wrocław and Tricity - Katowice railway lines, near the S8 road. The construction of the facility cost PLN 128 million.

The terminal was built on a plot of 13 ha near one of the largest freight stations in Poland. The investment was carried out with support from EU Funds from the Regional Operational Program of the Łódź Voivodeship. The amount of funding was PLN 46 million. — Many people have been trying to build this facility for many years. Karsznice is a place that was called the capital of Polish railways. Over time, it was removed from the main financing mechanism of the Polish railways. Today we are restoring this place to the railway map of the country. This dry port is extremely important for Zduńska Wola, the Łódź Voivodeship and the Polish economy - said Grzegorz Schreiber, Marshal of the Łódź Voivodeship.

A modern dry port

The terminal has a storage yard with an area of 33,000 m2. The facility is equipped with intelligent systems that optimize work, including an automatic container identification system and an order processing system, as well as the allocation of slots for trains and trucks. Initially, reloading will be performed only using reachstackers provided by Kalmar. The terminal will also receive overhead cranes, which will be installed next year.

— The terminal is important for Poland and fits into the region's development map. I would like to thank all the people who contributed to the creation of this facility. I would like to thank the Marshal of Łódź for his mobilization. We are a listed company, so such an investment had to meet certain financial requirements. We want customers from all over Europe to know about Karsznice and what we do in this terminal so that they want to cooperate with us, said Dariusz Seliga, president of PKP Cargo.

Strategic location

— This investment was not an easy task, but we managed to build this terminal in record time. I would like to thank the contractors and employees of PKP Cargo Terminale. Today we are handing over a modern facility, located in the heart of Poland at the intersection of main transport routes, equipped with modern systems that will improve its operation - said Hanna Jażdżyk, president of PKP Cargo Terminale.

The terminal in Zduńska Wola-Karsznice offers a range of logistics services, such as reloading and storage of empty and loaded containers with neutral and hazardous shipments, reloading and storage of semi-trailers and swap bodies, handling of containers and container tanks, as well as packaging and unpacking of goods from containers and palletization. PKP Cargo Terminale has a free area, which is reserved for further expansion of the facility, where additional storage yards are planned in the future.

— The terminal is an outstanding piece of engineering. Today we are finishing the first stage of the investment, but I am sure that the development of this facility will continue, as it has an excellent location, thanks to which it will ensure development not only for PKP Cargo, but for the whole of Poland - said Jacek Rutkowski, member of the management board of PKP Cargo and former president of PKP Cargo Terminale .
