July 2024 sees the expansion of multiple rail connections in Europe, with several companies introducing new routes and services.

MOVE Intermodal has introduced a new intermodal connection between Venlo (NL) and Novara (IT). It has started in May and increased frequency from June 17th, this route now offers six departures per week. The daily service aims to provide consistent connectivity between Italy and the Benelux region, aiming to reduce trucking kilometers and accommodate heavier container loads.

METRANS has initiated a new regular train connection from Duisburg to Poznan. This service is open for businesses looking to enhance their logistics operations in this key European corridor. Notable is the transport of semi-trailers, a new service for by-now container and swap bodies carrier.

The project, a collaborative effort by Virtus Logistics., Omida Logistics, and METRANS Group, aims to improve intermodal transport efficiency in the region.

The Poznań-Duisburg rail line will operate two departures from Poland and two from Germany each week. The transit time is 18 hours, significantly reducing freight transport time between the two countries. The train comprises 19 wagons, offering 38 slots, including 32 for trailers/containers and 6 for containers.

Trans Italia and Tramesa have launched a company train connecting Valencia and Madrid. This new service integrates with the “autostrade del mare” routes operated in partnership with Grimaldi from various Italian ports to Valencia. The initiative promises a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions and aims to decrease road transport, aligning with ESG principles. With Medway Iberia using Stadler’s Euro 6000 locomotive as traction, this is historically the first transport of semitrailers by rail in Spain.

Green Cargo, in collaboration with Rail Cargo Group, FORWARDIS, and Captrain, has commenced a service from Malmö to Rheinkamp (DE), extending to other European countries including Austria, Belgium, and France. The route, initially operating three round trips per week, may expand to five or six trips.

Raillogix has expanded its network by introducing a multimodal solution connecting Rotterdam and Antwerp via D3T Duisburg to CTHS - Container Terminal Halle Saale. This route includes last mile options by truck, targeting a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions by shifting freight from road to rail.

Rail Cargo Group has upgraded its high frequency #TransFER connection to Budapest, now linking Duisburg instead of Neuss. This new route offers five round trips per week, fixed schedules, and flexible cargo options, enhancing connectivity between major European transport hubs.
