Transport brings forward to December 16 the restoration of the railway service on the C1 and C2 lines of Valencia damaged by the DANA
- Starting next Monday, almost a week earlier than planned, all train services between Valencia and Gandía and between Valencia, Xàtiva and Moixent will be reestablished.
- Renfe has scheduled 69 trains per day for line C1 and 78 trains for line C2. More than 52,000 passengers use the Cercanías services on lines C1 and C2 in Valencia every day.
- With this opening, 31.2 km of both lines will be recovered: 7.6 km between Catarroja and Silla and 23.6 km between Silla and Alzira. A total of 274.6 km will be operational.
- The alternative bus service will continue on the C3, between Aldaia-Buñol-Utiel, following the start of the train service tomorrow between València Sant Luis and Aldaia.
- Adif is working on rebuilding 76.3 km of the C3 that was severely damaged by the devastating rains of October 29.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has brought forward the reactivation of the rail service on the entire C1 and C2 lines of the Valencia commuter rail network to 16 December, as announced today by Minister Óscar Puente in the Congress of Deputies. Thus, from Monday, the entire route of the line between Valencia and Gandía (C1) and between Valencia, Xàtiva and Moixent (C2) can be travelled by train, a major milestone in the recovery of mobility in the province after the damage suffered by the DANA. Not in vain, more than 52,000 passengers use the services of both lines every day.
With this latest reopening, the Ministry has met its target of having the C1, C2 and C3 lines up to Aldaia fully operational, set for 22 December, almost a week ahead of schedule, thanks to the great effort of Adif staff, who have been working day and night from the very beginning to repair and rebuild the railway lines affected by the devastating rains of 29 October.
Specifically, Renfe has scheduled 69 daily trips from Monday to Friday and 39 trains on weekends and holidays for the C1 Valencia – Gandía line, returning to the frequencies prior to the DANA. For the C2 line between Valencia-Xativa and Moixent, 78 trips have been scheduled each day, from Monday to Friday, and 66 on weekends, establishing the normal service for the Christmas season. The bus service will be suspended.
At this point, it is worth noting that tomorrow the train service will be reactivated on the C3 between Valencia Sant Luis and Aldaia and yesterday the first trains began to circulate between Valencia and Catarroja, on the common section of the C1 and C2.
In total, 31.2 km of both railway lines will be restored from 16 December: 7.6 km of the common section of C1 and C2 between Catarroja and Silla, and 23.6 km between Silla and Alzira of C2. Thus, from next week, 274.6 km of lines C6, C5, C3, C2 and C1 will be operational.
Adif will continue working to rebuild the 76.3 km of the C3 between Aldaia and Utiel that were severely damaged by the DANA, such as three viaducts in Cheste and Chiva destroyed and the platform and track lifted in many sections.
Renfe has established an alternative road transport plan between the Aldaia-Buñol-Utiel stations and the intermediate stations on the section.
The work carried out by Adif to date on these commuter lines has consisted mainly of:
- Cleaning and removal of vehicles, mud, soil, debris and any other element foreign to the railway platform, caused by floodwaters.
- Dismantling and lifting of the track, excavation, removal of ballast contaminated with sludge, and conditioning, leveling and compaction of the platform.
- Placement of geotextile blanket, supply and irrigation of ballast, assembly of previously raised track, welding, tamping, profiling and leveling.
- Degumming of catenary pole masses, as well as damage to catenary poles.
- Recovery of interlocking electronics, signalling wiring, track circuits and communications and fibre optic equipment.
