DB InfraGo wants to extend general renovation
An invitation from DB InfraGo to its customers reveals that the company plans to complete the general renovation only in the mid-2030s. Adjustments are planned for 2027.
DB InfraGo is adjusting its plans for the general renovation. According to a letter from the infrastructure subsidiary to customers, the plan is "to adjust the number of general renovations to four to five per year in consultation with the new federal government." The letter, which was obtained by DVZ, further states that as a result of the postponements, the total of 42 general renovations will be completed by the mid-2030s.
DB InfraGo plans to inform customers about this for the first time in an industry dialogue on June 25. A second meeting is scheduled for July 9. During these two dialogues, customers will receive further details on the timing of the major renovations starting in 2028, and any outstanding conflicts will be discussed in order to make any necessary adjustments. DB InfraGo also plans to present the adjusted scenario for the major renovations in 2027.
DB InfraGo has now officially issued a statement confirming the plans. The statement continues: "As soon as an agreement has been reached between DB InfraGo and the industry, DB InfraGo will hold further discussions with the federal government, which will make the final decision on adjustments to the schedule for the general renovations."
The schedule for the major renovation has been repeatedly criticized by users within the industry. Freight railways, in particular, have repeatedly called for corridors not to be simply "pushed through" despite all opposition and expert assessments regarding diversions. The German Press Agency (DPA) was the first to report on the issue.
