PKP Cargo Terminale to build new major intermodal terminal in central Poland

PKP Cargo Terminale, the terminal subsidiary of PKP Cargo, has signed a contract with ZUE, the Polish leading contractor in building and modernising rail infrastructure, for the construction of a brand new intermodal terminal at the Zduńska Wola Karsznice station in the Łódź Voivodeship. The net estimated value of the contract is 100 million zloty or around 21.3 million euros.

The investment is to be implemented by 31 October 2023. In the first stage of the project, the facility with an area of 12 hectares will be completed. The terminal at the Zduńska Wola Karsznice station will handle intermodal, rail and road connections.

It will be built on a plot belonging to PKP S.A. at the intersection of the two railways: Line No. 131 connecting Silesia with the Tri-City and the Warsaw – Wrocław line. The facility will be equipped with, among other things, two railway cranes, a siding with nine tracks, an unloading and storage yard as well as the accompanying road and parking infrastructure. The target capacity of the port’s storage areas could reach 4,500 TEU, while the port’s transhipment capacity is to reach 220,000 TEU per year. It will be one of the largest transhipment terminals in central Poland with the importance of a supra-regional hub.

This project will receive funding in the amount of 47 million zloty from the Regional Operational Programme of the Łódź Voivodeship. For this purpose, out-of-competition recruitment was conducted.
