< Back to list

The EU Commission has approved a change in Luxembourg's regulation to promote the modal shift of freight transport from road to rail and inland waterway transport. The scheme was originally approved in June 2015 and extended for the first time in July 2019. While the programme was set to expire at the end of 2022, it has now been allowed to run until the end of 2027.

The budget for the extension period was set at EUR 104 million and the scope of application was also expanded. The regulation now also applies to conventional domestic rail transport and conventional international inland waterway transport, while higher subsidies for horizontal transhipment of road vehicles (trailers) to rail will also be offered.
