Rail Hub Transylvania, the operator of the intermodal terminal of the same name in Arad, inaugurated the rail service connecting North Sea Port – a multimodal port that consolidates the port areas of Vlissingen, Terneuzen and Ghent and Romania.
The trimodal terminal in the Port of Ghent was chosen due to its geographical location, which provides access to direct maritime connections with major ports in Great Britain, Italy and other destinations.
The partners of this project are International Alexander, one of the largest road transport companies in Romania, and Transylvania Invest , a company that has been active in the field of grain trade at European level for over 18 years, which is part of the same group of companies as Rail Hub Transylvania.
"The uniqueness of this initiative lies in the fact that two industries have joined their resources to bring added value, each in its activity segment, and have engaged in a long-term intermodal transport project. Rail Hub Transylvania is both the terminal operator and the integrator of this traffic in a transparent partnership with all parties involved. ” says Louisa Gorban, CEO of Rail Hub Transylvania.
A significant part of the volumes for export, containerized bulk goods, are secured by Transylvania Invest throughout the year, helping to balance volume fluctuations between import and export in the Benelux area and neighboring countries.
"The purpose and development strategy of the terminal is based on the definition of a logistics hub, which will provide services for different industries, while also being a link between the big ports in Europe. Through the prism of the experience gained in organizing the transport of goods from Ukraine, we also find it opportune to develop other inland connections, compared to the traditional ones, for the combined transport of goods," said Louisa Gorban for Intermodal&Logistics.
Rail Hub Transylvania has invested in the destination terminal to create a dedicated space that allows the unloading and distribution of grain volumes on containers and barges.
On the Arad – Ghent – Arad route, the transit time was 56 hours each way, and the departure from the Rail Hub Transylvania terminal takes place within a maximum of 12 hours from the arrival of the train, on the same day.
"For the second train, we have engaged volumes of 70% of the train's capacity and we are enjoying the increased interest from companies active in the logistics field, but also from the production sectors," says Louisa Gorban.
Investments in temperature controlled storage
Among the ongoing investments of the Romanian company is the construction of a temperature-controlled storage space, with an area of 2,500 square meters and a total storage capacity of 1,500 tons.
"This space can also serve the transport of goods in a controlled temperature regime, services suitable for goods from countries such as Turkey, Poland and Germany, it being known that Romania is a constant importer from these regions," explains the CEO of Rail Hub Transylvania.
