The improved axle weight measurement system, which checks the weight of trucks at 189 locations in a total of 280 traffic lanes across the country, will start operating on December 1. The new system will not only take action against overweight vehicles, but will also sanction drivers who try to evade or obstruct the measurement, the Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM) told MTI.
The system acts against cheaters based on the principle of objective liability, and vehicle operators who try to influence or obstruct measurements can expect a fine of up to 650,000 forints. According to the announcement, the fine for trucks that violate the rules can range between 65,000 and 650,000 forints, depending on the extent of the violation.
