METRANS expands its terminal in Gądki

It is a good week for rail freight terminals. After openings in Almaty, Aktau, Poti, Gdańsk and Paris, a new expansion is now underway. This time, it is METRANS’ Gądki terminal, in western Poland, that is getting an upgrade.

With the expansion, METRANS seeks to boost its operational capacity, improve service efficiency and respond to the growing needs of its customers, the operator explains.

METRANS outlines some tangible steps that it will take during the terminal modernisation. For example, Gądki will get remote-controlled RMG portal cranes of the latest generation, a larger operational area, as well as longer and new tracks for 750-metre trains.

Moreover, the terminal will get an expanded freight handling and storage zone. That will allow for crane handling. A new modern truck access gate with a parking lot for heavy trucks is also part of the package. METRANS expects the upgrade to complete in the second half of 2026.

The Gądki terminal

Currently, the Gądki terminal boasts a 175,000 square metre terminal area and a storage capacity of 8,800 TEU. There are four rail tracks, of which one allows for 750-metre trains, the remaining three facilitate 630-metre trains. In terms of handling equipment, it currently has 10 reachstackers that can handle up to 45 tonnes.
