Becoming a Member

The UIRR is open to all operators of combined transport. Companies whose main activity is the operation or organisation of CT trains can be admitted as active members. Where other activities predominate it is possible to become an associate member in the same way as Eurotunnel, for example, whose main activity is that of infrastructure and railway undertaking manager but which is equally an important CT operator by way of its management of the Shuttle through the Channel Tunnel.

Given that Combined Transport depends heavily on the framework conditions relative to transport policy, lobbying work in respect of this policy and vis-à-vis the public sector is very important.

Within the UIRR, CT operators find partner companies with which they can co-operate to make use of international transport. The working groups permit an exchange of experience in the areas of operation, commercial aspects, data processing, routing of dangerous goods, safety and technical aspects of wagons, etc., as well as European harmonisation in respect of rationalising consignments and making them simpler for clients.

The UIRR Office in Brussels supports its members by means of a series of services, ranging from the allocation of client codes to assistance in making financial aid applications or in the management of projects.
