Gotthard Base Tunnel: Expanded offering confirmed from timetable change
The SBB assumes that the Gotthard Base Tunnel will not be fully available again for passenger and freight trains until September 2024. The derailment of a freight train on August 10, 2023 caused much more serious damage than initially assumed. As a result, the repair work is taking far longer than originally expected. From the timetable change on December 10, 2023, capacities for freight transport will be increased during the week and for passenger transport on weekends. SBB regularly informs the media about the status of the work.

GA Night: now valid all week from 6 p.m. (update December 18, 2023, 10 a.m.)
From December 22, 2023, GA Night will apply to all holders residing in the canton of Ticino for the entire week from 6 p.m. for travel on the Gotthard axis from Ticino to the north and from the north to Ticino.
As a result of the derailment of a freight train in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, GA Night has been valid since September 10, 2023 for customers who live in Ticino on Sunday evenings from 6:00 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m. for trips to the north.
Due to the current travel restrictions due to the Gotthard Base Tunnel, GA Night is now valid for travel on the Gotthard axis from December 22, 2023 on all weekdays from 6:00 p.m. and in both directions (to the north and from the north).
The adjustment applies exclusively to GA Night holders residing in Ticino. They will be informed in writing in the next few days. In order to benefit from the new conditions, you must always have the letter with you and be able to show it when you travel.
