PCC Intermodal celebrated its 20th anniversary at the terminal in Brzeg Dolny
Author: Łukasz Kuś
PCC Intermodal was registered in 2004. The first intermodal train was launched in 2005. This train carried caustic soda from the PCC Rokita plant to the terminal in Świnoujście. On September 12 this year, a jubilee ceremony took place in Brzeg Dolny, attended by the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Paweł Gancarz, representatives of PCC Intermodal, local governments and business partners.
— Since we launched our first intermodal trains almost 20 years ago, which ran irregularly, our business has developed significantly. Our crew has grown from a dozen or so people to almost 600 today. Today, we manage 5 terminals and launch over 600 trains per month, which is over 20 every day. We serve routes in all possible directions. We go to Antwerp, Rotterdam, Duisburg, Hamburg, Polish ports, as well as to Ukraine and recently to Italy. I am glad that we have the enthusiasm to run and develop this business. This is thanks to our crew, the core of which is made up of people who have worked for us from the beginning and people who joined the team later. These are people who believed in intermodal — said Dariusz Stefański, CEO, PCC Intermodal.
Innovative cranes
During the ceremony at the Brzeg Dolny terminal, two new semi-automatic RMG cranes were presented, remotely controlled by an operator working in the office building. The cranes were eventually given the names "Jedynka" and "Dwójka". From among several dozen proposals, PCC distinguished 20. Among them were the proposals for the names "enthusiasm" and "konstytucja" proposed by the publisherIntermodalNews.pl.
The cranes were built in 2023 as part of the terminal modernization, for which the company obtained funding from EU funds. PCC Intermodal is one of the first Polish operators to have semi-automatic cranes. - This is a novelty on the Polish market. There are few places where such devices can be found. However, the trend is clear. We want similar cranes to be installed in all of our terminals in the coming years. Crane number 3 has already been installed in Kutno - informed Dariusz Stefański.
PCC Intermodal, on the occasion of its anniversary, has launched a series of meetings entitled "Intermodal Business Mixer", during which it will talk with partners about the expectations and needs in the field of combined transport, in order to develop this form of sustainable transport in Poland. PCC Intermodal is one of the largest multimodal transport operators in Poland. In Q1 2024, the share of this carrier in the market was 16.35% by weight and 18.01% by transport work, which gave the company second place on the list of intermodal carriers in our country.
