For more than 40 years, the success of Road-Rail Combined Transport (CT) has been based on the actors' proven capabilities to integrate efficiently railway solutions into door-to-door logistic supply chains based on innovative digital solutions. CT customers, in particular the freight forwarders and the logistic companies, need accurate real-time information on the status of their loading units along the railway journey.

The CESAR web-based application is the perfect digital answer of the CT actors to the requirements of the CT customers: one virtual single entry point - www.cesar-online.com - allowing to track and trace every single transport. Currently more than 1,000 CT customers are connected to this CT ecosystem connecting smoothly the customers, the CT operators and the terminal operators.

The steady growing number of connected customers is the positive result of a two-year project known as 'ALEA' to entirely transform the CESAR core interface into a new digital experience for the customers with a total fresh design, adapted processes and new functionalities. Mr. Gerhard Dittrich, Chairman of the CIS Supervisory Board, recently declared: "Thanks to intensive efforts and tight planning developments, we could deliver the CESAR 2.0 interface to the great satisfaction of our existing customers but also to many new ones. With the new CESAR features, our customers receive the right information at the right moment, which is vital for organising the last logistic mile on road. At the same time, we also managed to attract more customers to use our B2B automatic data integration".

The CT operators developing the CESAR platform are continuously seeking new opportunities to extend the CESAR ecosystem: the reinforcement of the data connectivity with the terminal operators (promoting the common data exchange format EDIGES), the improvement of the overall data quality per transport (e.g. enhanced ETA status information thanks to direct interfacing with the railway infrastructure managers and terminal operators) and finally the creation of new digital interfacing such as the present ongoing testing and evaluation of a mobile application for CESAR.
