CEO Girteka: Transport prices will rise by up to 30% in Europe

Edvardas Liachovičius, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Girteka Group, considers the situation in the transport sector during this period to be unprecedented.

During my 25 years in the industry as an executive director, I have seen and experienced a lot of market situations. However, the current situation is truly unique - although there is a huge demand for transport services, the industry is still struggling to survive due to the current economic conditions, ”Liachovičius said in a recent statement.

Despite the fact that people spent more than ever during the pandemic, which increased the demand for Full Truck Load (FTL) capacity, carriers had to cope with inflation, and inflation meant rising costs for everyone, including for truck operators, notes Liachovičius.

Operating costs are directly linked to rising fuel prices

More than a fifth of transportation costs are fuel-related, says CEO Girteka, also citing factors that contribute to transportation inflation and rising gas prices, coupled with rising AdBlue prices.

According to him, the carriers also experienced an increase in operating costs due to the fact that there is an obvious lack of human resources, but also a growing demand for vehicles, not covered by the existing supply, amid the global microchip crisis.

Girteka Logistics has tried to solve the problem proactively (). So far, none of our trucks have been idle at the transportation bases, proving that we have been successful in retaining and recruiting drivers, but also that we have been able to find the right solutions for our customers. We have a very young fleet, which means we are more cost-effective and also provide a more comfortable working environment for our drivers. ”

A new scenario of rising prices

CEO Girteka warns that we could see another scenario in which prices continue to rise in the coming months:

The average price for a load in Europe has already reached a record high, but rising inflation and disruption to global supply chains could have a domino effect leading to a potential further increase in transport costs of up to 30%.
