New containers that METRANS introduces into operation are designed to transport vehicles on rail, offering a new method for car manufacturers to move their products efficiently.

The launch of new Car Carrier Containers (CCC) is following an extensive testing phase that began earlier this year. The initial prototypes of the CCC were introduced at METRANS’ Dunajská Streda terminal in February. These containers were subjected to a series of loading tests in Celje, Slovenia, in collaboration with SSC RAILTEC.

The tests confirmed the capability of these containers to handle vehicles weighing up to 4.2 tonnes. Constructed from reinforced steel, the CCCs are adaptable to varying vehicle heights and are designed for easy stacking when not in use, with the ability to be stacked three units high.

CCCs can be integrated into existing intermodal systems. Vehicles can be loaded directly onto the containers, which can then be transported by road or rail. The design ensures that vehicles remain secure during transloading, with the use of reachstackers or gantry cranes minimizing the risk of damage.

These containers are carried on 80ft Sggns XL wagons, produced by TATRAVAGONKA, which can accommodate four CCCs per wagon. This configuration supports increased efficiency in rail transport, catering to the needs of the automotive industry.
