The Action ‘Enhanced real-time communication about train composition and estimated time of arrival’ will address and solve concrete operational interoperability obstacles included in the Technical Operational PSA Issues Logbook. The overall objective of the Action is to assist the sector and authorities to find concrete solutions for the following issues:
- Cleaning up national rules that have become obsolete following the development of the Operation and traffic management Technical Specification for Interoperability (OPE TSI), or even contradictory to the OPE TSI or other EU legislation (train composition messages, harmonization/reduction of national parameters in TCM).
- Action at sector-level (RFCs/RUs/IMs) to develop harmonised templates, identify and apply best practices and increase trust between the stakeholders involved (roll-out of HERMES 30 v 2 for TAF TSI compliance, train composition and running information in TIS, link between international trains with different national train numbers).
- Further regulatory or implementation measures: (1) ETA integration, (2) Terminal integration into RNE TIS, (3) Mapping of EDIGES for TAF TSI compliance and (4) feasibility study on railway collaborative decision making (RCDM).

The workload is structured in 4 different activities:
- Combined train composition and running information in TIS
- Processing and improving ETA information
- Initiating data sharing with terminals including the rollout of real-time information and ETA (first/last mile)
- Quality enhancement; Feasibility Study Railway Collaborative Decision Making
UIRR is responsible for and coordinates the activities 2 and 3 with the support of RNE.
The results of the project have been disseminated in a webinar organised on the 20th April 2022 (https://rne.eu/news/recording-and-slides-of-digital-train-1-0-webinar-now-available/).
