The TEN-T Network / Rail Freight Corridors

The Trans European Network for Transportation (TEN-T): Regulation 1315/2015 created the TEN-T network, which is the collection of those elements of the European public transportation infrastructure, which holds a continent-wide importance.  About 80% of Pan-European traffic – in both passengers and freight – is carried out on the TEN-T lines.  The main aim of TEN-T is to create and operate a harmonised, interoperable transport infrastructure that supports seamless European transportation services.

European Transport Corridors:  The European Transport Corridors integrate the Rail Freight Corridors, mainly to coordinate infrastructure investment planning. https://transport.ec.europa.eu/transport-themes/infrastructure-and-investment/trans-european-transport-network-ten-t_en

Rail Freight Corridors: Regulation 913/2015 established the European Rail Freight Corridors, or RFCs, which are collections of railway lines that facilitate the circulation of cross-border freight trains in a particular direction in Europe: https://rne.eu/corridor-management/rfc-network/

Terminals: Transshipment facilities for freight, in the case of intermodal rail called terminals, are the gateways for intermodal cargo to rail freight transport.  Most intermodal terminals are a CNC Terminal and/or an RFC terminal, indicating that they serve traffic of the sections of network nearest to them.  UIRR focuses closely on terminals.  More information about terminals can be found under the topic Intermodal Terminals.
