Contship set to grow in 2025 with terminals and intermodal transport
04/05/2026
Contship closed 2025 with net revenues of 293 million euros, up 10.9% from 2024. According to the communiqué issued by the Group on the basis of the annual report of Eurokai, the consolidated result also increased, with an increase of 16.7%. Tommaso Ferrario, CFO of Contship, has linked the results of 2025 to the strengthening of intermodal activities and the strengthening of operations in maritime terminals. A growth distributed over several operational areas emerges, with a contribution from the port sector and the railway and land network.
In the maritime transport, La Spezia Container Terminal has driven the increase of revenues. The result came in a year conditional on non-ordinary operating factors, including the temporary closure of one of the two docks of the Fornelli pier for security interventions and the redesign of the routes linked to the new structure of the global maritime alliances that came into force in 2025. According to Contship, the impact on the handled volumes remained marginal thanks to the operational continuity guaranteed during the transition phase. The terminal of La Spezia remains a significant hub in the logistics corridors served by the Group, also in infrastructure perspective. In 2025 the preparatory activities for the new Ravano terminal continued, included in the program of modernization and increase of the capacity of the port promoted by Contship. It is an intervention that is part of a long-term strategy that aims to support the operational capacity of the airport and to enhance its role in container flows.
Il Intermodal transport recorded the fifth consecutive year of operating growth. Sogemar, Hannibal, Oceanogate, Rail Hub Milano and Drivemybox have benefited from the launch of new services and the strengthening of intermodal connections in Italy and Europe. The figure is also relevant in the light of the infrastructure problems that continue to affect the sector, in particular the regularity of the connections and the capacity available along some railway routes. The growth of the intermodal indicates a demand oriented towards solutions capable of connecting the ports with the main productive and distribution basins, reducing the dependence on road transport alone on long distances. In this context, the development of railway connections and internal nodes becomes an operational element for the competitiveness of logistics corridors.
In June 2025, Contship completed the acquisition of the Sts Group, which strengthened the integrated supply of customs solutions. The inclusion of specialized skills in the services related to the goods allows the Group to expand the coverage along the logistics chain, alongside the terminal and transport activities a more structured component in document and customs processes. For operators, this step can affect the management of international flows and the reduction of operational discontinuities.
Growth also affected employment. At the end of 2025, Contship had 1,150 employees, up again thanks to 196 new hires. The figure includes the integration of the 96 resources of the STS Group, confirming the combined effect between organic development and acquisitions. During the year, Contship defined and launched the sustainability strategy "Moves That Matter", built on the analysis of double materiality. The company indicates the objective of integrating the sustainability criteria in a more structured way in the decision-making processes and in the development levers of the company. For a group active in port terminals, intermodality and logistics services, this route concerns both the environmental impacts and the industrial management of infrastructure and relations with the operators of the logistics chain.
The development strategy also looks at the start of the operations of the new Damietta terminal and the expansion of the terminal of La Spezia, scheduled for the second half of the year. Matthieu Gasselin, CEO of Contship, pointed to these interventions, together with investments in the intermodal, as the main factors of growth and value creation for the Group. The management remains that of a strengthening in the areas considered strategic and in the European and international logistic corridors. Contship also plans to continue the digital transformation path with initiatives dedicated to artificial intelligence and predictive analysis. The goal is to improve operational efficiency and customer service, intervening on processes and on the ability to read advance operational needs. The strategy remains based on capacity expansion along the logistics chain and direct control of strategic assets, with attention to the resilience of the integrated model in the long term.
