GCA OTC strengthens its commitment to Combined Transport and decarbonisation
In the first half of 2026, GCA OTC continued to pursue its long-term strategy aimed at strengthening the role of Combined Transport as one of the most effective solutions for freight decarbonisation across Europe.
Despite a challenging economic environment, Novatrans and Greenmodal recorded continued growth in intermodal activity, handling more than 140,000 consignments during Q2 2026 and generating over 143,000 tonnes of CO₂ savings compared with road-only transport.
A major milestone of 2025/2026 has been the launch of GCA Traction , a strategic initiative designed to reinforce operational excellence and secure long-term rail performance within the Group. This development reflects GCA OTC's ambition to further improve service reliability, capacity management and customer experience while supporting modal shift objectives.
At the same time, GCA OTC continues to invest significantly in digitalisation. A new generation information system is being deployed to improve operational visibility, customer information, EDI integration and data exchange across the intermodal supply chain. This initiative supports the broader European objective of a more connected and interoperable rail freight sector.
Another strategic focus concerns the wagon fleet. GCA OTC is actively working on wagon performance, availability, maintenance efficiency and asset utilisation. Improving wagon productivity is considered a key lever to enhance service quality, increase network efficiency and facilitate further modal shift from road to rail.
