In 2026, Ukrainian grain, like vegetable oils, is transported to the Great Odessa ports complex in containers belonging to the Polish carrier. The company also transports artificial fertilizers from Poland and meat and biomass on the way back to customers in our country and further in Europe. In turn, steel and ore are transported to Black Sea ports and recipients in the European Union.
“Getting into a regime of constant threat to the lives of our employees and property is a unique challenge. In the next year of the war, we prove that we can and can do it. Laude Smart Intermodal has been maintaining and developing intermodal corridors for Ukrainian exports and imports for years. No one doubts that without the railway, defending the country and its functioning would be virtually impossible – emphasizes Pavel Kalasko, Vice President of Eastern Markets at Laude Smart Intermodal SA.
From January to April 2026, Ukrainian seaports handled 29.5 million tonnes of cargo, exceeding the result from the same period in 2025. Traditionally, most transhipments were agricultural products. The volume of grain transhipment was 16 million tonnes, an increase of 7% year-on-year.
The increase in trade in goods indicates a gradual adaptation of the logistics sector to operating in conditions of continuous security threat. Ports remain a key element of Ukrainian exports, providing supplies of agricultural products, metallurgical raw materials and other cargo to foreign markets. In the period January-March 2026, the volume of transport in the iron and steel sectors increased by 121 300 tonnes (up to 2 million tonnes), an increase of 6.5% year-on-year. The increase was recorded in all categories: exports (65 300 tonnes), transit (43 800 tonnes) and domestic transport (17 000 tonnes).
Laude Smart Intermodal operates regular container connections via the Baltic Hub in Gdańsk, positioning the Baltic Sea as a key market for Ukrainian cargo. In Southern Europe, the company operates a route through Ismail to the Romanian port of Constanta. He also cooperates with the ports of Odessa and Czarnomorsk in the field of transport through the Black Sea and maintains a railway-sea connection with Turkey. Laude Smart Intermodal, thanks to the unique technological solutions used in its containers, has the ability to load them both from the side and from above or on the side. This allows you to transport virtually any type of cargo.
– We have become a permanent part of the logistics landscape of the Ukrainian economy. We plan to expand our transport offer and strengthen our leadership position in intermodal transport. We see opportunities for the development of our transports from Ukraine to Turkey and Central Asian countries. Our intermodal model, using one container in rail, port and sea transport without handling goods, has provided greater flexibility in the conditions of disruption – argues Marcin Witczak, President of the Management Board of Laude Smart Intermodal.
According to the State Statistical Service of Ukraine, the volume of freight transport in the country in 2025 amounted to 322.2 million tonnes, a decrease of 9% compared to 2024. Rail transport accounted for 161.3 million tonnes (−7.8%), road transport – 125.2 million tonnes (−2,8%) and the remainder – other modes of transport. Analyzing the above data, it is necessary to add that last year Russia attacked the Ukrainian railway infrastructure almost 1200 times, which is more than in 2024 and 2023 combined. According to Ukrzaliznyce, in 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, as a result of Russian shelling, 209 locomotives, 239 passenger carriages and 371 freight wagons were damaged, as well as 86 railway bridges and 50 stations. – This does not stop our transport activity. We are expanding our offer, introducing new directions of transport, such as Germany, Italy or Lithuania, and today we are ready to increase the scale of transport when the post-war reconstruction of the country begins – concludes President Marcin Witczak.
