To address the concerns of Dutch carriers, who, like their colleagues, are dealing with the sharp increase in diesel prices, the Dutch government has announced that the levy will be reduced between 1 September and the end of 2026.

Vincent Karremans, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, has informed the House of Representatives that the rates of the kilometre charge will be reduced by 22.3% between 1 September and 31 December 2026. On average, there is a discount of 4.3 cents per kilometer driven.

The measure to reduce the tariffs does not arise directly from a request from the federation TLN and the timing concerns Dutch transporters, as shown by an article by ttm.nl: “The proposed reduction will only take effect on September. This means that companies will first have to deal with the introduction of the levy as of 1 July, followed by an adjustment a few months later. This entails additional administrative burdens in practice and can lead to recalculation and adjustment of agreements with clients. In addition, this approach does not sufficiently match the underlying problem of short-term liquidity pressure.”
